In 2017, Kent County Council started a new round of plan-making for mineral sites. They put out a ‘call for sites’ to enable them to update the Kent Minerals and Waste Local Plan 2013-2030. The plan is there to ensure an ongoing supply of building materials in the county for building homes and infrastructure.

A local minerals firm proposed a block of estate land as a potential site. Following the review of a longlist of 9 sites it was shortlisted by KCC as one of the two most suitable in Kent for development.
Factors such as landscape, ecology, transport, noise and air quality were all assessed during the process to understand the potential impact.  Following consultation, the site was not selected for inclusion in the plan and is not being taken forward.

The proposals included retaining both the ancient woodland adjacent to the site and the permissive route through it, together with a new circular walking and riding route as well as maintaining trees with bat-roosts.
