We’re looking for a hardworking and reliable person to join our team as a Forestry and Landscape Operative/Apprentice.

You will have an interest in the countryside and enjoy working outdoors.  You will also need to be self-motivated, trustworthy and capable of working unsupervised (although we do not allow lone-working with chainsaws!).

Depending on your age and level of qualifications, we may be able to arrange an apprenticeship scheme at a local college. Alternatively we can arrange training in areas such as chainsaw maintenance and operation, use of brush-cutter, sprayer, tractor and tree-felling.

Your initial jobs will include assisting with forestry management, tree-felling, timber processing, conservation works and estate maintenance; all subject to receiving the appropriate training.

Our previous apprentice, Sam, is now in full-time employment on the Estate. His work includes landscape maintenance, tree-felling, driving the tractor and crane-trailer and operating our sawmill. In his words, ‘No two days are the same and come with opportunities to develop various skills. I have been sent on a wide variety of courses and received high level on the job training in both forestry and landscaping‘.

You will need your own transport to get here as we are in a rural location.

The salary will be reflective of the training that will be given in the role and is also dependent on age.

If that sounds exciting, please send your CV along with a chatty email explaining why you are keen to join us to office@birlingestate.co.uk
