Discover back to nature woodland camping

Visit the website

Remember when you could run wild in the woods? Play for hours on a rope swing, climb a tree, build a den or toast marshmallows on the fire?

Come and immerse yourselves in our beautiful ancient woodland. Allow nature and the magic of the campfire to send you home feeling healthy, energised and relaxed.

We offer quiet, off-grid woodland camping for real campers and their families that want to get back to nature.

You can expect a secluded pitch under the trees with plenty of space to yourselves plus lovely new hot showers and loos for a few creature comforts.

We have bushcraft and survival experts based on site providing a range of courses. As well as our own free-range hens, a local farm shop and acres of woodland to explore.

History & Conservation

Our woods are on top of the Kent North Downs in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we are probably the closest woodland camping near to London.

As a designated local wildlife site in ancient woodland, conservation and preservation of the woodland environment is an important part of how we run the camp.

During WWII, Badgells Wood was part of the British Army pre-officer cadet training camp. Between 1942 and 1946, up to 80,000 cadets would have passed through the camp destined for commission in the British Army. Learning skills such as field craft, battle drills, map reading and vehicle driving & maintenance. Our campsite was home to the Field Ambulance Wing. Remnants of the camp can be seen when exploring, in addition to the remains of a 1km stretch of WWI trench, dug as a stop-line along the top of the downs.

Press & Reviews

We love our site, but don’t take our word for it – check out some of the press reviews… Amazing to be listed alongside some truly wild sites by the Great Outdoors Magazine in their favourite nearly wild camping sites. Also by the Guardian in their review of the best B&B’s, cottages and campsites in the UK.
